🔗 Lesson 21 – Obligatory connections
Learn to recognize and pronounce the obligatory liaisons in French
📘 1. Simple explanation
There mandatory link is a small sound that connects two words. We hear it always in pronunciation.
Examples: friends, you have, a child
💡 Tip:
Imagine that words are like train carriages that need to be attached together. The connection is the fastening!
✨ 2. Examples
The friends are arriving.
/friend/
You have a pen.
/vuz‿ave/
A child runs.
/œ̃n‿ɑ̃fɑ̃/
🎯 Important rule
The obligatory link is generally made between a determiner (le, la, les, un, des...) and the noun that follows, or between a subject pronoun (vous, ils, nous...) and the verb.
💬 3. Mini-situation
Fatima:
« The children they play in the park. You have seen ? "»
The neighbor:
«Yes, I I have them They've been spotted. They're having a great time!»
