Hello and welcome.
Today we are learning how to describe body parts in French.
In 10 minutes, not one more.
Shall we begin? Let's go!

The main parts of the body

Here are the main parts of the human body:

  • the head
  • the face (eyes, nose, mouth, ears)
  • the neck
  • the shoulders
  • arms (arm, elbow, hand, fingers)
  • the torso (chest, stomach, back)
  • the legs (leg, knee, foot, toes)

Express simple descriptions

Here are some sentences to describe the body:

  • I have short hair.
  • She has blue eyes.
  • He has a big mouth.
  • My hands are cold.
  • You have long legs.

Use adjectives to describe

To describe well, we can use adjectives like:

  • big / small
  • long / short
  • light / dark
  • strong / thin

Attention : In French, the adjective agrees with the noun (masculine/feminine, singular/plural).

Practical advice

To progress:

  • Look at a picture of the human body and label each part.
  • Describe a simple person (example: a drawing, a silhouette).
  • Use a mirror to say out loud: “This is my mouth”, “This is my nose”…
  • Learn by singing or playing with children, if possible.

There you have it, you have just learned to name and describe the main parts of the body.
